Fashion Fantasy

The fashion show was fabulous! Everything went really well apart from a few minor mistakes. I was out on the Runway five times, three times modelling and twice with music performances.
My group was made up of myself, EveElla and Aimee. Thankfully our shop, "Born" had really nice clothes, so we got two outfits, one formal and one casual. My casual outfit was black jeans, a black tank top and a long black, white and grey fur jacket. My formal outfit was a knee-length form fitting maroon dress with gold chain detailing and cut-outs. You can see the pictures here
My other modelling job was for Ruth Doyle, a former student and current fashion designer. My group for this one was made up of myself, Anita (TYs), Lauren, Izzy (5th Years), Ailish and Roisin (6th Years). The dresses for this collection were either black or white and had black hair as details. They were not dresses you would wear out, but they were very fashionable.
Our music acts unfortunately did not go as smoothly. On the first day, the sound check did not go to plan, and as a result the mics for our Bastille medley were too loud and the guitars were not able to be heard. In our Christmas Carols, the piano was too loud and the voices too quiet. On the second showing of our acts, the next day, all issues were smoothed out and each act went very well.

Overall the fashion show was a huge success and i hope we can do it again over years to come.

Busy Bees

Next week, our school is having a Fashion Show. Everybody is super busy trying to make sure everything goes to plan. I decided to take part in way too much stuff. I'm doing a music piece with a small choir, another music piece with some other TYs and modelling as well.

My group and I are going to get fitted on Monday in "Born" in Naas. Hopefully we get nice clothes to wear.
We are continuously rehearsing for our TY Bastille Medley, and to be honest, I know it so well, its driving me insane.
I am avoiding thinking about it because I'm scared something will go wrong and the whole world will crash and burn.

Hallo-What

                                                                             Wednesday
Today is our Halloween dress up day and our year had the theme of zombies. Seeing as I couldn't do zombie make-up I decided Wednesday Addams would be a suitable substitute. Hannah is a zombie though. She looks super cool with her zombie makeup. Here's a little pic of us

Shout out to Alison who also put this photo on her blog.

The Labyrinth

Well for our October blog challenge we have to make a sentence out of pictures and mine is about my Work Experience this week, when I was told to find Woodies and buy bubble-wrap.

Funky Shoes and Banoffee Pie

I unfortunately do not have a lot to write about seeing as I wasn't in school for the first three days of the week.
On Thursday, we had baking and we made banoffee pie. I haven't tasted it yet because it looks suspicious but hopefully it will be okay....
Today we are having a no uniform day to support mental health awareness. It is called the "Walk in My Shoes" day and everyone has to wear FUNKY SHOES.
These are the "funky" shoes I am wearing. Sorry for the lack of imagination, my other shoes didn't go with my outfit (shallow, I know).
I am really happy that we are taking part in raising awareness of mental health issues because lots of people suffer from them these days. It's not always easy to show that you are having psychological trouble and this day reminds us that anyone could be in pain and to try and "step into their shoes."
I believe this movement has a lot of sole. Oh how punderful.

Anyway I must be off so goodbye until next week, if the shoe fits. (BA-DUM-CHH)

The Sore Losers :(

This week was our Fun Walk!
Our class, class Ariel (a.k.a. THE BEST CLASS), spent weeks perfecting our anti-bullying performance, and it was of a very high standard. Everyone in our class dressed up as Flounder from The Little Mermaid and our tutor, Mr. Lawless, dressed up as a shark. We performed our dance to a compilation of the songs, Under the Sea, Jaws, Part of That World, Dangerous Love and On Top of The World. Our dance went very successfully and we were very proud of it.
Unfortunately we lost.
We deserved to win.
Aurora won.
Evil is at work.

Work Experience and Things

This week we had our first day of work experience. I worked in Newbridge Physiotherapy in Newbridge. I had later hours than most of the people in my year, starting at 1pm and finishing at 9:15pm. I mainly spent my day observing the methods of treating people using physiotherapy. My supervisor saw 8 patients while I was there and even though that seems like a lot, she said it was a small amount for her. I also helped with cleaning the equipment and the Pilates and treatment rooms. At 8:15 I sat in on a Pilates class being taught by my supervisor. I found the whole day very interesting and it has made me very positive about physio as a future career.

YOUR DIGITAL DOSSIER
A digital dossier is like a digital footprint. It is a track of all the things in your life that have included digital technology.
Your digital dossier starts before you are even born, with a sonograms and facebook posts about you while you are still in the womb. After you are born and as a child your family may post pictures or statuses about you on facebook and other social networking sites. They might also text their friends about matters concerning you.
When you are old enough you will start accounts on social networking sites and post pictures and statuses concerning your own life. When you get married, your wife/husband's digital dossier will be added to your own, making it larger.
Overall you build up a virtual storeroom full of digital files on your life and death and whatever was in between. Many people do not realise how big their digital dossier/footprint is.
Watching this video made me understand the situation a lot better.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=79IYZVYIVLA&feature=youtu.be
I never even knew you could have a digital footprint before watching this video and I found it very informative.

"There is No Party, Like an S Club Party"

This week was Carlingford! We arrived there at around nine o'clock on Monday morning, after leaving home at seven. Straight away we were put into our rooms and told to get our water gear ready. We went down to the boathouse and got changed into wetsuits and got ready for kayaking. It was loads of fun but really cold.
At one o'clock we had a lunch of sausages, beans and chips then got ready for laser tag. To get to the arena, we had to walk up a massive hill, but it was so worth it. Laser tag was one of the best activities of the two days. Our team's instructors would give us inspirational quotes before each game, which usually made no sense and were really silly, quote the title of this post.

After that we headed back to have dinner and we had two hours of free time to go to the shops and relax. Our night time activity was a night line. This meant we had to follow a rope , in the dark, BLINDFOLDED. It was really fun and the instructors would go around growling and screaming to try and scare us.
Day two in Carlingford also consisted of water sports in the morning and team games in the afternoon. I was sick in the morning so I could not take part in the water sports but I participated in  the team games where our team of eleven people undertook challenges to win gems. Unfortunately we did not get the most number of gems, but in fairness, we did the hardest challenges.
We headed home on the bus after the team sports and were home safe and sound for an early enough, seven o'clock, Tuesday night.
Wednesday consisted of three workshops. Etiquette, Work Experience and  Personal Development. It was a really fun day and I learned a lot about myself.
On Thursday we went to NUIM  for a workshop/lecture on Student Enterprise and Mini Company. In truth, I thought this was going to be boring because I have never enjoyed business but it was actually really good.
Overall, this has been a very busy week and I've had lots of fun and learned a lot about myself, teamwork and innovation.

Results! And stuff...

This week we got our Junior Cert. results back! I was pleased with my results and I think I did well. I was super nervous before the brown envelopes were handed out but when I got them and opened them I was surprised (in a good and bad way) but happy. Afterwards, I went out with my friends and we had a great time celebrating our excellent results. I'm really excited to get my Junior Cert Art project back as I was really proud of it.

Yesterday in Home Ec. we made chocolate chip cookies. This year is the first time I have ever done Home Ec. so it was a good experience. Our cookies also tasted delicious and were gone in seconds.

On Monday we are going to Carlingford Adventure Center for a TY trip! I'm really excited and can't wait to try out the new activities that I might not have done before. It will be a great adventure and I have heard from past TY students that it is a really fun trip.

First Post of TY

Hey! So this is my first post on my TY blog of 2014. This post will be about the first workshop day we had on Wednesday and some other relevant things.
So, anyway, on Wednesday we did three workshops throughout the day. The first was Etiquette and we learned how to present ourselves. We also had to walk down a red carpet with heels on, which was both embarrassing and fun. Our second workshop was Positive Parties. It taught us to be confident with ourselves. It was a good workshop but a little eccentric and odd... The last workshop was First Aid and I found that really informative and interesting because I learned how to act in a difficult, medical related situation.
On another note, I finally got some work experience. Well, when I say "I", I really mean my mam's friend's daughter got it for me. I will be working for a physiotherapist close to where I live, so hopefully everything goes well.
